Justin Bieber was married here
Updated: Apr 29, 2020
Renee and I walked out of Somerset Chapel on Palmetto Bluff after checking on the details, and we were approached by some ladies in a golf cart. "Is this where Justin Bieber got married?" they asked. "Well, yes, it was just a few days ago," we responded. They seemed unusually excited about the near brush with celebrity and wanted to see the chapel. Feeling like tour guides, we welcomed them into the chapel and chatted about the beauty of the chapel and the loveliness of the setting. It is an exquisite site for a wedding, and it was just perfect for Haley and Danny.
It isn’t everyday that I have someone tell me they met in a snowboard shop. Growing up in the South, I can count on one hand the amount of times I have been skiing or snowboarding. “I was out with my friends boarding one day and stopped by the local snowboard shop where this cute girl was working behind the counter,” says Danny.
“Yeah, we started going back to the shop fairly often as I recall it,” says Erik, best man.
It was there in the snowboard shop that one boy fell for one girl, and over the next few years, they began hanging out more frequently. Their groups of friends collided into one solid core group of besties who traveled to Bluffton, South Carolina, to celebrate their intimate wedding weekend.
Haley had a distinct style, and the way she carried herself was admirable. Together, she and Danny brought so much fun and laughter into a room. I was honored to have gotten a few different opportunities to spend time with them prior to the wedding weekend. In fact, I met Haley’s parents and aunt long before I met them due to attending med school up north. We went around Old Town Bluffton scouting for additional room blocks one afternoon at Old Bluffton Inn. What a lovely day that was!
Haley loved elegant simplicity, and that is something I adore as well. The bridesmaids, her sister and dear friend, wore long velvet hunter green dresses with elegant flowing sleeves while the guys donned classic black tuxes. Danny certainly stood out in his black velvet tux and velvet shoes to match.
A string duo provided accompaniment as guests arrived, and when the chapel bell chimed for the start of the processional, all was indeed perfect!
I have grown to love these intimate moments among loved ones for there are none better than your closest family and friends. After the ceremony, guests meandered over to the River House for cocktails on the eastward facing veranda while the bridal party continued with photos.
The air cooled, and we lit a fire in the fireplace. The reception décor consisted of all greenery and white flowers with taper candles in mixed metal candle holders. The tide rolled in, and the moon began to rise about the time guests entered the glowing ballroom. Guests enjoyed dinner then dancing and onward to the after party where we had pizzas delivered for a late-night snack.
Haley and Danny might not have been celebrities, but they were the king and queen of this fabulous day. It was splendid!
